APM Mailcore
Questions

Here are some of the commonly asked questions about MailCore. You may also find useful information in the Support section.

It depends what you are using it for. Email is nearly always provided as a free addition to an Internet connection. As it is not 'core business', some providers do not take adequate care over email performance and fail to provide adequate protection from spam and viruses. Also, you're often stuck with a weird address such as 'xhgybf236@myprovider.com' rather than your own choice.

If you're in business, email is a core lifeline, like phones, fax and post. MailCore gives you the ability to use you own domain, with none of the costs associated with running your own server and a service you can rely on.

Yes. MailCore is particularly suited to small businesses who lack the internal expertise or budget to run their own mail servers but want the professional image that comes with it.

No. One of the great things about MailCore is the only thing you need is an email client.

You may find APM Gateway more appropriate. This service offers protection from spam and viruses for existing email infrastructure.

More than likely. We support POP3, the most common email protocol on the web. If you do not have a client, we can recommend Thunderbird, a free open-source email client.

Probably you will. We have a saying here, "One person's spam is another person's fantastic offer". Fact is, your computer (and ours) cannot be taught about all your personal tastes. What we look for in a spam is signs that the email has been sent in a manner designed to hide the sender's true identity. This is a clear indication that are doing something they should not. We score the email based on several different factors then decide whether to deem the email 'spam' or not. You can change the sensitivity of this on your control panel.

What we offer is a massive reduction in spam hitting your inbox. You can expect to only see the occasional one get through, once in a while. We work constantly to enhance detection capabilities and the system is improving all the time.

Almost definitely not. We receive updates from Kaspersky (our anti-virus of choice) every 15 minutes.

Only by a few seconds.

FetchMail allows to consolidate your email accounts into one place. You tell us about your email accounts in the control panel. We'll then collect email from those accounts on a regular basis and bring them into your MailCore inbox. All your emails in one place.

Only if they offer a POP3 connection.

If you already have your own domain, you just need to contact whoever is hosting it for you and ask them to change the records so emails are directed to our servers. Then make a small change in the control panel and you're done.

We don't register domains at this time, but 123 Reg do.

None. You can have up to 50 domains associated with your account.

If you just need web-based email and are happy with a @hotmail address, then Hotmail is fine. MailCore is ideal for people who need a reliable, professional, spam and virus-free solution.

No. We're honest about our charges and our services. If we charge for our accounts, then we have the revenue to make them work and we don't have bother you with advertisements.

Yes. All accounts come with a WebMail service, so you can get to your mail wherever you are.

You can. Set the quota you require during setup. Our starting quotas are low because if you are using an email client you don't need a large quota. The quota is just the queue of emails you haven't seen yet. Our IMAP-ready business package comes with 500MB as standard. That's a lot of email! You can always order more if you require.

In the POP3 world, an email is received by your 'home' server and stored until you collect it using your client. At that point the email is moved, deleting it from the server. When using IMAP, the email always stays on the server until you delete it. You can also create folders and store email permanently in those folders. If you are someone who moves around from computer to computer, IMAP will always give you the same inbox and folders on each device.
